Settling in and Burgers
James Kellerman
I am slowly settling into Portland and getting over the jet lag, though I am still surprisingly happy to jump out of bed at 5am! Had a great day of American cuisine yesterday and it may well go down as the highest cholestrol day of my life! Started out with a great fried breakfast, eggs, bacon, sausages and toast followed by a fantastic philly cheese steak at one of the carts in downtown. Its been a long time since I had a really good cheese steak and it was a great reunion. This left only dinner time to go, what else but the great American hamburger. Stanich's is the classic dive, college sports on the TV, cheerful and overweight waitresses sports memorabillia on the wall and a fantastic burger. Voted Portland's best on numerous occasions the special was damn good. It even featured my favorite burger topping, fried egg. Pickles are put on the side in case you don't like them, no danger for me so they went right into that big old burger, and then right into me! All this washed down with a jug of fantastic micro brewed weissbier. Looks like its back to muelsi and salad tomorrow!
