Wakeboarding and whiplash

James Kellerman

Well had my second session of wakeboarding out here in Singapore, was a good session, landed my first jumps! Enjoying the soft landing on the board as opposed to the hard landing on the face!

Woke up this morning fairly frazzled by the sun and with a really stiff neck from some of the bigger falls yesterday, this is the price you have to pay for a good day out on the water I guess!

Strange Movie Tiime

James Kellerman

Caught Immortel, at the mini film festival here last night. Not a brilliant film but still fairly cool nonetheless. A combination of CGI and real actors set against all CGI backgrounds. The best parts of the movie for me were the vehicle and environment designs, with some excellent texturing and inventive models. The worst part was the dialog, which felt pretty stilted most of the time and sometimes downright awful particularly between the CG characters. Worth checking out just for the bizarre story line. Gaint pyramid hanging over New York in 2095, wiht ancient egyptian gods playing monopoly.

Going climbing!

James Kellerman

Ok, well my stuff still hasn't cleared customs but i am going to head out and buy some new rock boots and check out the local climbing scene. Apparently there is awesome climbing in Thailand, which isn't that far away. I am going to be crap, but it will feel good to be climbing again.

New Favourite Hawker Stall

James Kellerman

Ok, found my favourite food stall, following the tried and tested longest queue technique. At the Kopi Tiam at Plaza Singapura there is an Indonesian BBQ stall, fantastic grilled chicken, rice and omelette thing all for a bargain S$4.50. Thats £1.50 for all you jealous U.K friends.

Monday Morning

James Kellerman

Its been an interesting if uneventful weekend, mostly eating it seems. This is a country of eating, pretty much everything seems to revolve around eating and when good hawker food is $3.50 SGD for a big bowl of noodles its damn good value too, Went to the world wake-board championships that were held on a reservoir here, not bad. The guys definitely getting some huge air with lots of spins, twirls and stuff, though not the kind of just brute force big uncomplicated stuff that I like in my extreme sport consumption. Have posted some pics for the sake of it. Back on the job trail today...

Job hunting and corruption

James Kellerman

O.k. back in Singapore and hunting for a job. Was a good weekend in ipoh drove over in a 2 car convoy, 2 BMW's travelling at a healthy speed. On the way back we got stopped for speeding, In Malaysia speed traps appear to be a way of the police earning some extra cash, just two guys flag you down tell you you were going too fast, some random speed that doesn't relate to reality and then waffle at you about how difficult it is to pay the official way and just to give them 50 RM about £10 and everything will be dealt with. So some Malaysian police dude is a little bit better off and I feel bad about contributing to a corrupt system!

Off to Ipoh

James Kellerman

I am off to Ipoh, Malaysia for the weekend, its a 5 hour drive from Singapore. Will be back on Sunday with a few stories and some pictures.

Hairy Crab

James Kellerman

Its hairy crab season here, so off to the restaurant we went! Quite good, very messy for me anyway. the big question I had was did it taste like scrambled egg because it looked like scrambled egg or if I had closed my eyes would it have tasted like hairy crab. Its all about perception and expectation. And now for some science. Pilumnus fissifrons Whereas many crabs will attempt to escape when disturbed or captured, hairy crabs play dead, curling their legs up to look as inconspicuous as possible. Their camouflage makes them difficult to see even when rocks are turned. Apparently the male crab is at its best in Oct, and the female in Nov.

Playgrounds

James Kellerman

I love playgrounds and the ones here in Singapore are great, spent a good part of yesterday leaping jumping and generally finding ways of misusing the equipment. Only a few bruises and a couple of pictures tell the sorry tale of the biggest kids in the playground.

Bluetooth mouse

James Kellerman

Just got a MacMice Bluetooth mouse, so far very good, just works. Which is good for a mouse, plus it looks nice next to my powerbook.

Singapore!

James Kellerman

My first post from Singapore, have just got my internet connection sorted out. I no longer have to sit on the balcony to "borrow" a wireless connection from one of my less secure neighbours. Have posted some pictures of my place here, its only temporary while I am looking for work. So far so good, body is slowly adopting to the heat, and the 7 hour jet-lag. Flew over on emirates was pretty good, they certainly have better seat pitch than BA or Singapore airlines and my 6'3" fit pretty comfortably apart from the averagely narrow shoulder room. Food and service were both good, certainly would fly again. Hi to all my friends who might be reading this, missing you all.

its a frenzy of eebs

James Kellerman

I am having an ebay frenzy to get rid of all my stuff including my car. Gone for the no reserve option, a frightening prospect! Check out my car here and buy one loved Luxury Ka Link.

Unemployed marhar wearer

James Kellerman

Aghhhhhhhhhh, I am unemployed now, goddam thats frightening. Well into the great unknown and try to spending money, not going to the marhar sale would have been a good start. Way under half price though so I cant complain too much. though now rather too much of my wardrobe is marhar, ughhhh.

Space Ship One X prize attempt

James Kellerman

Burt Rutan's space ship one is making an attempt on the Ansari X prize today. Live video is available from Space.com. I am amazed that they have designed and built a spacecraft for around $20 mill. Small change for most multinationals! Good luck to the whole team.
