Ok, so i went a little mad at the weekend. My first proper clothes shopping trip in a while, and as a result I am now the proud owner of a pair of size 12 adicolor H2. These pure white beauties, come with a set of spray paints to create your own design, or more likely plain ruin your shoes. I am thinking about stenciling them ala banksy, in fact given that he is incredibly talented and I am not, I might just copy one of his designs. If you or anyone you know has good ideas for what I should stencil on my glorious new white shoes, please comment! You can even design it online here: http://www.adidas.com/adicolor/

Schneier on Security: The Value of Privacy

James Kellerman

Absolutely excellent article by Bruce Schneier on the importance of privacy and its role as a basic human need. I heartily recommend it, especially in these times of increased surveillance and government intrusion into our daily lives.
Cardinal Richelieu understood the value of surveillance when he famously said, "If one would give me six lines written by the hand of the most honest man, I would find something in them to have him hanged." Watch someone long enough, and you'll find something to arrest -- or just blackmail -- with. Privacy protects us from abuses by those in power, even if we're doing nothing wrong at the time of surveillance. We do nothing wrong when we make love or go to the bathroom. We are not deliberately hiding anything when we seek out private places for reflection or conversation. We keep private journals, sing in the privacy of the shower, and write letters to secret lovers and then burn them. Privacy is a basic human need. Link

5 hours in

James Kellerman

I have been here 5 hours now and I have already
  • Eaten a huge hamburger
  • Drunk great cold beer
  • Won several games of pool
  • Met random cool locals
  • Met nice girls
Its the American way.

Going to America

James Kellerman

I am back off to the states for a few months, I'll be staying in sunny Portland and enjoying its many delights. I will probably be blogging a bit more whilst I am there as things always seem more interesting in a foreign country. As usual I seem to have packed far too fast, I must have forgotten dozens of things, though I general believe that if they are unimportant enough to forget, they are easily replaced/lived without. I am not that excited about the journey this time, its a bit more mundane, flying through Chicago and straight into Portland. Last time I took the beautiful train ride down from Seattle. On the plus side it looks like the A380 Airbus super jumbo mega plane will be landing for the first time at Heathrow whilst I am there, so I will keep my eyes open, and some sort of camera/phone/imaging device to hand. Tonight it's the champions league final, so hopefully it will be a great night on which to leave, go on you Gunners! etc etc. It looks like pretty much everyone is heading over to my brothers house (huge arsenal fan) to watch the match, I see visions of euphoria or utter depression, amazing thing sport.

Went down to the south bank last night to meet some friends. Ended up sitting on the benches watching the sun set over the river, drinking cans of stella and enjoying the antics of London by the riverside.

The South Bank has such an eclectic mix of people. The skaters, finally being able to make great use of the concrete bowls after years of disputes and fights with the council, bring a raw urban energy to the mix. The secondhand book sellers under waterloo bridge, an affordable and eccentric collection of just about anything printed. Business men and women wander past on the way to Waterloo station, while runners fly past dodging the various human hazards on the riverside. Throw into this collection of archetypes a handful of well dressed concert goers, heading to the Royal Festival Hall, and arty film types drinking outside the national film theatre and you have a neat cross section of urban london.

Today I broke 100 miles running, since starting just over a month ago. Had a fantastic run around richmond park, the 10.2 miles pushed me comfortable over the 100 mile mark. The graph shows how it happened! Going to aim for a half marathon this year, hopefully with a time around 1 hour 30.

BBC Programme Catalogue

James Kellerman

The BBC have made their entire programme catalogue online. You can search for anything in the records of nearly 1 million radio & TV programs, if only you could actually watch them once you have found it. Have a look, see if any of your relatives have ever appeared on the BBC, this may help to settle some of those pub arguments such as when was the first appearance of X on TV. In fact the pub quiz may be in serious danger! The indexed, searchable, and user tagged future is coming!
Advanced Search INCLUDES: Details of 946,614 BBC radio & TV programmes, dating back 75 years 503,193 subject categories, from Pig Farming to Pirate Radio 1,182,424 contributors, from Bruce Forsyth to Imelda Marcos DOES NOT INCLUDE: Anything to listen to or watch... Sorry, but the programmes themselves are not available. Info about every single BBC programme, ever. It's a vast catalogue, but it's not comprehensive. A guarantee of accuracy. We're very proud of it, but we know there are mistakes.

At Last 6am!

James Kellerman

Well I have been talking about it for a while, and this morning I finally did it. Got up at 6am for my run, this is a major victory for me, a well known proponent of the pull the covers over the head and pretend the world isn't there until 8am movement. It was a beautiful sunny day, the interval session hurt like hell. 3 x 8min of painful legs and lungs, sure this is meant to be good for you.

We are in a holding pattern at the Royal London Hospital. My brother, Ben in the middle, has had acute chest pains on exertion for the last couple of days and NHS direct sent out an ambulance to check him over. Despite finding nothing wrong on the ECG they recommended going to hospital. So one free trip in the ambulance later, no blue light unfortunately, we are safely waiting in ER. Not expecting any serious problem, but hopefully we will find out soon. Update: Ben got discharged last night, no problems discovered but they are doing some follow up and will let us know. And yes we are in a hospital in the picture, jsut not too stressed.

My 10 seconds of fame.

James Kellerman

Here I am in all my Televisual glory. My brief appearance on BBC2 is here for your viewing pleasure. I am guessing this is fair use but in this day and age of ridiculous DRM who knows.

National TV, fame and fortune beckon

James Kellerman

Or not. I was on the You're Fired program last night as part of my business partner Samuel Judah's participation in The Apprentice UK. As an exciting audience member I get to answer a not very interesting question with a particularly unexciting answer. I also have the piss taken out of my eye wear which worth watching it for. you can check it out probably for a week, and most annoyingly if you are in the UK (stupid BBC) at. http://www.bbc.co.uk/apprentice/video/ Scroll down the page and at the bottom click the You're Fired Video, my moment comes about 20 min through.

No more training posts + Small site changes

James Kellerman

I am not going to keep updating the blog here with my boring training efforts. Instead you can check out my progress over at runningahead.com. Considering how much web 2.0 stuff out there its been tough to find a decent on line training log. So I am pretty happy to have found runningahead, its both free, and advertising free. If you are looking for something fairly simple to log your training I would sincerely suggest checking it out. I am sure back in the early days of the web there was an amazing training log/fitness site, with all sorts of training programs etc. I seem to remember it changed its name and was called something beginning with "A" but for the life of me can find no trace of it on the web. Pretty vague I know, but it was about 5 years ago and on the web thats a long long time. You might also notice that the sidebar on the right should show the tracks that I have been listening to. So any of you that want to laugh at my musical tastes feel free to do so there.

Dixons is to close!

James Kellerman

One of my most loathed high street stores has decided to remove its name from the UK. If you ever wanted any technology item at an absurdly high price that was several years out of date sold to you by a 16 year old that neither knew what they were talking about nor cared what you needed, then Dixons was your place. I am pleased to see that survival of the fittest occasionally works in the retail environment. Good riddance. Via the BBC
